The Israel of God

  • What is the modern State of Israel?
  • Is it a fulfilment of Bible prophecy?
  • Should we as a Christians stand uncritically in support of the State of Israel?
  • In light of Scripture like Gen. 12: 3; Num. 22: 12 and Zec. 2: 8 are we in danger of incurring the curse of God on our lives if we say negative things about or against the State of Israel?
  • Are most modern day Israelis connected with the ancient Israelites of Bible times?

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (Mat. 23: 37-39)

Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. ‘Do you see all these things?’ he asked. ‘Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.’”  (Mat. 24: 1-2)

In discussing the issue of Israel with a brother one question he would often ask is: “Who really is Israel?” That’s a very good question.

In great trepidation and at the risk of losing my head I want to share my understanding of this issue. Please note that square bracketed comments in Scriptural quotes are mine and unless otherwise stated all Scriptural quotations are from the NIV. All emphases are mine unless noted otherwise.

The Israel of God

Rom. 9: 1-5 “I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit— I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.”

Comment: Paul has a heavy burden for his ethnic kinsmen the physical fleshly descendants of Jacob/Israel known as Israelites/Jews – the nation of Israel. As Paul said of himself in Acts 21: 39: “I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.” And again in Rom. 11: 1b “I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.”

Rom. 9: 6-7a “It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children…”

Comment: Not all ethnic stock Israelites/Jews, are really Israel/Jews a.k.a. Abraham’s children. Paul made this point earlier in Rom. 2: 28-29 when he said: “A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, [i.e. physically/ethnically] nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29 No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart [i.e. inwardly/spiritually, cf. Jer. 31: 31-34], by the Spirit, [i.e. the Spirit of Christ, see Rom. 8: 9] not by the written code [i.e. by the law]. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God.”

Case in point: the Pharisees’ encounter with Jesus recorded in Jn. 8: 39-47

“Abraham is our father,” they [the Pharisees] answered.

If you [Jews by physical descent] were Abraham’s children,” [or “Israel” as Paul defines Abraham’s children; see again Rom. 9: 6-7a] said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did [Q. What did Abraham do? A. He rejoiced as he looked forward to see the day of Jesus the Messiah and was glad; see verse 56 of this same chapter of John’s gospel] 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”

“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me [true Jews a.k.a. Abraham’s children/Israel love Jesus. Unfortunately this cannot be said of the majority of Jews around the world or in the modern State of Israel¹], for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? [there is an inner teaching of present day Pharisaic Judaism which in its hatred of Jesus states that He is being punished in Hell for eternity by being made to sit in a cauldron of boiling excrement]. If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God” [the uncomfortable truth of this statement is that Jews who do not believe in Jesus do not belong to God].

This passage of Scripture recorded in John’s gospel brings into sharp focus the meaning of Jesus’ statement also recorded by John in Rev. 3: 9 which says: “I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars–I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.”

Rom. 9: 7b-8 “On the contrary, ‘It is through Isaac that your offspring [“seed” KJV] will be reckoned.’ In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring [“seed” KJV]”

Comment: The phrase “your seed” in the sentence “It is through Isaac that your offspring/seed will be reckoned” is a reference to Christ Jesus while the phrase “the children of the promise” in the sentence “it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring/seed” is a reference to those saved through faith in Christ as Paul said in Galatians 3: 16 and 26-28 “The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say ‘and to seeds,’ meaning many people, but ‘and to your seed,’ meaning one person, who is Christ26So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus29 If you belong to Christ, then [and only then] you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Therefore Roman’s 9: 6b – 7a which says: “For not all who are descended from Israel are IsraelNor because they are his [Israel’s] descendants are they all Abraham’s children…” and Rom. 9: 8 which says “In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise [i.e. those saved through faith in Christ Jesus] who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring” means that in all Jewry only Jews who have received Jesus as their Saviour/Messiah are God’s children a.k.a. Israel.

Modern statistics show that the world’s core Jewish population, as at the beginning of 2013, is estimated at 13,854,800 (around 0.2% of the world population). In 1939, the core Jewish population reached its highest historical peak of 17 million (0.8% of the global population). The total number of people who hold or are eligible for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return — defined as anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent, and who does not actively profess any other religion — is estimated at around 21.7 million, of which 6.3 million are currently living in Israel. In stark contrast there are only about 350, 000 Christian/Messianic Jews worldwide (cited at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_population_by_country and https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091203172349AAi95Zk)

Paul addressed the issue of the sparsity of true Israel among his own people in Romans 9: 27-33 which says:

“Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:

Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,
only the remnant will be saved.
28 For the Lord will carry out
his sentence on earth with speed and finality.’

29 It is just as Isaiah said previously:

‘Unless the Lord Almighty
had left us descendants,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.’

30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith [in Jesus Christ] but as if it were by works [of the law]. They stumbled over the stumbling stone . 33 As it is written:

‘See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble
and a rock that makes them fall,
and the one who believes in him [Christ Jesus] will never be put to shame.’”

Therefore true Jews from the ethnic stock of Abraham are those Jews who down through the last 2,014 years of this New Testament era have received Jesus as their Messiah exercising faith in Him unto salvation. These Jews – inclusive of Old Testament Jewish saints who also by faith, like Abraham, rejoiced to see Jesus’ day and was glad (see Jn.8: 56; cf. Heb.11: 8-40; 1 Pet. 1: 8-12) – are Israel.

Jn. 1: 11-12He came to that which was his own [ethnic Jews] but his own did not receive him12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God [Abraham’s seed/true Jews/Israel]— 13 children born not of natural [physical ] descent*, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

*(cf Mat. 3: 9 “And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham” – John the Baptist)

Jn. 3: 1-7 “Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.’

Jesus replied, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.

‘How can someone be born when they are old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!’

Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the SpiritFlesh gives birth to flesh, [Jesus here addresses the Jewish “We have Abraham as our father” syndrome by which they automatically thought they were children of God; see again Mat. 3: 9 and Jn. 8:39-41] but the Spirit gives birth to spiritYou should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’”

As Paul again said in Rom. 2: 28-29A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, [i.e. only of physical descent] nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29 No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heartby the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God.”

Thus in effect true Jews from the ethnic stock of Abraham are born again Christian Jews.

Acts 11: 19 -21 & 26b “Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. 20 Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord… The disciples [both Jews and Greeks/Gentiles] were called Christians first at Antioch.”

These Christian Jews – inclusive of Old Testament Jewish saints who also by faith, like Abraham, rejoiced to see Jesus’ day and was glad – are the remnant of Israel of which Paul was one.

Rom. 11: 1-7 “I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: ‘Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me’? And what was God’s answer to him? ‘I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.’ So too [as it was in Elijah’s time], at the present time [the first century when Paul was writing] there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace. What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened.”

As servants of Jesus these Christian Jews will not or should not fight for the land of Canaan/Israel/Palestine to make it an independent Jewish State/Kingdom as the Jews of Jesus’ day expected the Messiah to do when – to use the words of one commentator – “the kingdom had been for some time taken away from the Jews and Judea was reduced to a Roman province under the power of a Roman governor.” Biblical examples of the Jewish expectations of a political revolutionary Messiah who would throw off the Imperial colonial yoke of Rome and Jesus’ response to such expectations are found in the following Scriptural references:

Jn. 6: 14-15 “After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, ‘Surely this is the Prophet [Messiah] who is to come into the world.’ 15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.”

Jn. 18: 36 “Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.’” (see also Mat. 20: 21; Lk. 24: 21).

Instead of fighting for the restoration of an independent Jewish State/Kingdom, true Jews (i.e. born again/Christian Jews) on Jesus’ orders are to join in the Great Commission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ (see Mat. 28: 16-20) and wait for Him to physically return and establish the true Davidic Kingdom in the Father’s own time.

Acts 1: 6-8 “Then they gathered around him and asked him, ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ 7He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’”

 All Israel

Ultimately, ethnic stock Jews as well as Gentiles who have both received Jesus as their Lord/Saviour/Messiah are collectively the Israel of God

Rom. 9: 8-26 “In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. For this was how the promise was stated: ‘At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.’10 Not only that [i.e. the statement ‘At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son’ wasn’t the only way the promise of Christ was made] but [it was made in the following ways as well] Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. 11 Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election [i.e. to bring forth Christ] might stand: 12 not by works but by him who calls—she was told, ‘The older will serve the younger.’ 13 Just as it is written: ‘Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.’ [those two statements ‘The older will serve the younger’ and ‘Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated’ were two other ways the promise of Christ was made showing not only through whom He would come but also the superiority of Christ (“the seed”) and the New Covenant Church to the Old Covenant and Judaism. As Heb. 8: 6 says:  “But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.” This was a position held by early Church Fathers. For example Justin of Martyr (100 AD – 165 AD), in his book —Dialogue with Trypho— written in the early second century A.D., doesn’t hesitate to define Jacob as a symbol of the Church. He said:  “For the true spiritual Israel … are we who have been led to God through this crucified Christ.” His polemic writing had a great success in the Early Church] 14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15 For he says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion’ [i.e. God had the sovereign right, based no doubt on His foreknowledge, to choose through whom the promise (i.e. Christ) should come and to have compassion on the children of the promise; all those who receive Jesus Christ]. 16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: ‘I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.’[just as God raised up hardhearted Pharaoh to accomplish His purposes so He raised up hardhearted Israel of the flesh to accomplish his purposes; cf. Acts 2: 23; 7: 51-53]  18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden [i.e. while God has mercy on the children of the promise (Jews and Gentiles) apart from the woks of the law; see Rom.3: 20 and Gal. 2: 15-16, He hardens in judgment those who in the context of Romans are Jews who reject Jesus Christ; see Rom. 11: 7-10] 19 One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? [i.e. those Jews who are guilty of rejecting Jesus as Messiah resulting in God’s pronouncing judgment on them] For who is able to resist his will?” [i.e. weren’t those Jews who denounced and crucified Jesus just carrying out God’s will? So why is God pronouncing judgment on them as a nation for their continued obstinacy?] 20 But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’” 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

[With regard to verses 20, 21 Pulpit Commentary makes the following observation: “Hath not the potter power (rather, authorityover the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? (Jeremiah 18:1-10). The figure of the clay, first introduced from Isaiah, is carried out at length in the passage from Jeremiah which is referred to. It is important, for understanding St. Paul’s drift, to examine this passage. The prophet, in order that he might understand God’s way of dealing with nations, is directed to go down to the potter’s house, and watch the potter at his work. The potter is at work with a lump of clay, with the view of making a vessel of it; but it is ‘marred in the hand of the potter;’ it does not come out into the form intended; so he rejects it, and makes anew another vessel after his mind, ‘as seemed good to the potter to make it.’ The prophet’s application of the illustration is that, ‘as the clay is in the potter’s hands, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel, saith the LORD;’ meaning that if the house of Israel failed to answer to the LORD’S purpose, he could reject it at his pleasure, as the potter did the marred vessel; and in vers. 7-10 the view is extended to God’s power over, and way of dealing with, all nations of mankind; and then, in ver. 11, the men of Judah are warned to return from their evil ways, lest the LORD should so do unto them. Thus it is by no means implied by the illustration that Israel, or any other nation, has been formed with the primary and irresistible purpose of rejecting it as a ‘vessel unto dishonour,’ or that, when rejected, it has not had opportunity of being otherwise; but only that God has absolute power and right over it, to reject it if proved unworthy.” cited at http://biblehub.com/commentaries/pulpit/romans/9.htm; italicized emphases mine]

22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath [the Jesus rejecting Jewish nation]—prepared for destruction? [cf. Mat. 23: 39; 24: 1-2; cf. Acts 7: 48 – fulfilled in AD 70. Regarding verse 22 Pulpit Commentary again says: “The idea expressed by ‘endured,’ [KJV/‘bore’ NIV] etc., seems suggested by Pharaoh’s case…but it is the Jewish nation of his own day that he has now in view. They were rejected from inheritance of the promises, and under Divine wrath; as he says in another place, ‘The wrath had come upon them to the uttermost’ (1 Thessalonians 2:16). But they were still borne with; they were not finally cut off; and what if their present rejection were but subservient to the great purpose of mercy to the true Israel?” cited at http://biblehub.com/commentaries/pulpit/romans/9.htm; emphasis mine]

23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, [the children of the promise; cf. 1 Cor. 10: 1- 11] whom he prepared in advance for glory— [see Rom. 8: 28-30; cf. 2 Cor. 3: 10-11; 1 Pet. 1: 10-12]24 even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? 25 As he says in Hosea:

“I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people;
and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”

26 and,

“In the very place where it was said to them,
‘You are not my people,’
there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’”

These statements above quoted from the prophet Hosea were all made to repentant Old Covenant Israel. Under the New Covenant they are now made to “even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles– the New Covenant repentant Israel of God, those who have accepted Jesus the Messiah as Saviour and Lord.

Gal. 3: 26-29 “So in Christ Jesus you [Jews and Gentiles] are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, [i.e. there is no classism in the Church of Christ] for you are all one in Christ Jesus29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Gal. 6: 15-16 “Neither circumcision [Jewish] nor uncircumcision [Gentile] means anything; what counts is the new creation16 Peace and mercy to all [Jew and Gentile] who follow this rule—to the Israel of God.”

The Israel of God is also called by Paul “one new man/humanity in Christ”

Eph. 2: 14-22  “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups [ Jews and Gentiles] one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in one body [i.e. the Church; Eph. 1: 22-23; Col. 1: 18] to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility17 He came and preached peace to you [Gentiles] who were far away and peace to those [Jews] who were near. 18 For through him we both [Jews and Gentiles] have access to the Father by one Spirit.

19 Consequently, you [Gentiles] are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people [Christian Jews] and also members of his household [Israel], 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building [the Church; see Mat. 16: 18] is joined together and rises to become a holy temple* in the Lord22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

*Notice the New Covenant focus is shifted from the physical Temple – the Old Covenant “house of God” (see 1 Kings 8:26-30; Is. 56: 7; cf. Mat. 21: 12-13) in the physical city of Jerusalem which was destined for destruction (Mat. 23: 39; 24: 1-2; cf. Acts 7: 48 – fulfilled in AD 70) to God’s New Covenant spiritual Temple the Church – the body of Christ/house of God (Jn.14: 23; 1 Cor. 3: 9, 16-17; 6: 19-20; Eph. 1: 22-23; Col. 1: 18; 1 Tim. 3: 15; Heb. 3: 6; 1 Pet. 2: 5) which is destined for glorification (Eph. 5: 25-27).

The Israel of God (God’s New Covenant Church) is also called by Paul “the Jerusalem that is above.”

Gal. 4: 21-26, 31  “Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says?22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar.25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem [i.e. the physical city in the 1st century physical land of Israel which adhered to the Mosaic Covenant which, 20 centuries later, has not changed with the emergence of the modern State of Israel which claims adherence to that same covenant], because she is in slavery with her children [i.e. Jesus rejecting Jews in bondage to the Mosaic law] 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother…Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

Paul even admonished Christians to disassociate themselves from earthly Jerusalem which is in bondage to the obsolete Mosaic covenant. In his own words:

Gal. 4: 28-31 Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 At that time the son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. 30 But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.” 31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.”

Christian Jews and Christian Gentiles will reign with Christ when he returns as the only one to rightfully establish the Davidic Kingdom which will not be confined to that relatively small piece of real estate in the Middle East but will be universal.

Mat. 19: 28 “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.’”

Acts 3: 21 “Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.”

Rev. 21: 2 “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, [the Church; the Jerusalem above] coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”

Furthermore Jesus the Messiah is already ruling over His Kingdom (Jews and Gentiles – the Israel of God) and they (Jews and Gentiles – the Israel of God) are already joint heirs in His Kingdom awaiting its ultimate manifestation on earth when Christ returns (Rom. 8: 16-23; Eph. 2: 1-7; Col. 1: 13-20; Rev. 11: 15).

Conversely the antichrist Jews throughout the New Testament era including those who now rule and inhabit the modern State of Israel (with disastrous consequences) are already and will be thrust out of Christ’s Kingdom.

Mat. 8: 11-12 “I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom [Jesus rejecting Jews] will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Lk. 13: 28-29 “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you [Jesus rejecting Jews] yourselves thrown out.29 People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.”

Jesus rejecting Jews are already cut off from the true Israel of God.

Acts 3: 22-23 “For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.”

These antichrist Jews will only be grafted back in if they repent by embracing Jesus as their Messiah.

Acts 3: 19-20 “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you [Jews]—even Jesus.”

Rom. 11: 23 – 24 “And if they [Jews] do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches [ethnic stock Jews/Israelites], be grafted into their own olive tree [spiritual Israel]!”

Rom. 11: 25 “I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,”

Comment: “Israel has experienced a hardening in part…” Not all Jews throughout the past two thousand years were or still are unbelievers in Jesus Christ although the majority were and still are unbelievers. As Paul said earlier in Rom.11: 2-5: “God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: ‘Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me’? And what was God’s answer to him? ‘I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.’ So too, at the present time [1st century New Testament era when Paul was writing. And it is even so to this very day in the 21st century] there is a remnant chosen by grace.”

Jewish rejection of the gospel opened up the way for the gospel to be preached to the Gentiles: Acts 13: 44-46 (NASV) “The next Sabbath nearly the whole city assembled to hear the word of the Lord. 45But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.46Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, ‘It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first; since you repudiate it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.’”

Salvation of the Gentiles was always God’s intention: Genesis 22: 18 (NASV) “In your seed [i.e. Christ, Gal. 3: 16] all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” (see also Jn. 3: 16).

This rejection of Jesus Christ among the majority of the Jews will continue to be so “until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,…”

Rom. 11: 26 – 27 “and in this way [the rejection of Jesus Christ among the majority of the Jews] all Israel will be saved. As it is written:

“The deliverer will come from Zion;
he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
27 And this is my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”

Comment: “and in this way all Israel will be saved.” In what way is Paul talking about? In the way of Christ rejecting Jews leading to the salvation of Gentiles who along with believing Jews (the remnant) comprise the Israel of God; God’s New Covenant Church (Gal. 6: 15-16).

“The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.” Jacob here is the real Israel from among ethnic stock Jews as Paul said in Rom. 9: 6 “For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.”

“And this is my covenant [the New Testament Covenant; see Lk. 22: 20] with them when I take away their sins.”

It is the real Israel from among ethnic stock of Jews (i.e. Jews who embrace Jesus as their Messiah) who reap the benefits of Christ’s atoning sacrifice – sins forgiven.

Rom. 11: 29- 32  “As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, 29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.”

Comment: They are unbelieving Jews who were and are currently enemies of the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout this New Testament era who in the foreknowledge of God were and are destined to become believers in Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul was a prime example of this fact as he said in Rom. 11: 1-2a “I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew.” Although Paul was himself at one time an enemy of the Church of Christ he was foreknown by God as one of His who would be brought to repentance (Gal. 1: 13-24; cf. 2 Tim. 2: 19).

 The Modern State of Israel

In complete opposition to the will of Jesus (the true Jewish Messiah) the present State of Israel is the purely humanistic efforts and work of revolutionaries such as the militant Zionist group known as the National Military Organization in Israel/the Stern Gang/Lehi. This group was founded in 1940 by Avraham (Yair) Stern. The group’s stated purpose was to evict the British colonial authorities from Palestine by resort to force, (much like 1st century Jewish zealots who tried to evict Roman colonial authorities from Judaea, a practice which Jesus rejected) allowing unrestricted immigration of Jews and the formation of a Jewish state, a ‘new totalitarian Hebrew republic.’

Lehi split from the Irgun militant group in 1940 in order to continue fighting the British during World War II. Lehi initially sought an alliance with Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, offering to fight alongside them against the British in return for the transfer of all Jews from Nazi-occupied Europe to Palestine. On the belief that Nazi Germany was a lesser enemy of the Jews than Britain, Lehi twice attempted to form an alliance with the Nazis. During World War II it declared that it would establish a Jewish state based upon “nationalist and totalitarian principles”²

After Stern’s death in 1942, the new leadership of Lehi began to move it towards support of Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Union.³ In 1944 Lehi officially declared its support for National Bolshevism.⁴ It said that its National Bolshevism involved an amalgamation of left-wing and right-wing political elements – Stern said Lehi incorporated elements of both the left and the right⁵ – however this change was unpopular and Lehi began to lose support as a result.

Lehi and the Irgun were jointly responsible for the massacre in Deir Yassin. Lehi assassinated Lord Moyne, British Minister Resident in the Middle East, and made many other attacks on the British in Palestine.⁶ On May 29, 1948, the government of Israel, having inducted its activist members into the Tzahal, formally disbanded Lehi, though some of its members carried out one more terrorist act, the assassination of Folke Bernadotte some months later⁷ an act condemned by Bernadotte’s replacement as mediator, Ralph Bunche. Israel granted a general amnesty to Lehi members on 14 February 1949. In 1980, Israel instituted a military decoration in “award for activity in the struggle for the establishment of Israel,” the Lehi ribbon.⁸ Former Lehi leader Yitzhak Shamir became Prime Minister of Israel in 1983.

The stated goals of Lehi⁹ were/are as follows:

  1. THE NATION
The Jewish people is a covenanted people, the originator of monotheism, formulator of the prophetic teachings, standard bearer of human culture, guardian of glorious patrimony. The Jewish people is schooled in self-sacrifice and suffering; its vision, survivability and faith in redemption are indestructible.
  2. THE HOMELAND

The homeland in the Land of Israel within the borders delineated in the Bible (“To your descendants, I shall give this land, from the River of Egypt to the great Euphrates River.” Genesis 15:18) This is the land of the living, where the entire nation shall live in safety.

  1. THE NATION AND ITS LAND
Israel conquered the land with the sword. There it became a great nation and only there it will be reborn. Hence Israel alone has a right to that land. This is am [sic] absolute right. It has never expired and never will.
  1. THE GOALS
    1. Redemption of the land.
    2. Establishment of sovereignty.
    3. Revival of the nation.
There is no sovereignty without the redemption of the land, and there is no national revival without sovereignty.

These are the goals of the organization during the period of war and conquest:
    5. EDUCATION
Educate the nation to love freedom and zealously guard Israel’s eternal patrimony. Inculcate the idea that the nation is master to its own fate. Revive the doctrine that “The sword and the book came bound together from heaven” (Midrash Vayikra Rabba35:8)

    6. UNITY
The unification of the entire nation around the banner of the Hebrew freedom movement. The use of the genius, status and resources of individuals and the channeling of the energy, devotion and revolutionary fervor of the masses for the war of liberation.

    7. PACTS
Make pacts with all those who are willing to help the struggle of the organization and provide direct support.

    8. FORCE
Consolidate and increase the fighting force in the homeland and in the Diaspora, in the underground and in the barracks, to become the Hebrew army of liberation with its flag, arms, and commanders.

    9. WAR
Constant war against those who stand in the way of fulfilling the goals.

  2. CONQUEST
The conquest of the homeland from foreign rule and its eternal possession.

These are the tasks of the movement during the period of sovereignty and redemption:
    11. SOVEREIGNTY
Renewal of Hebrew sovereignty over the redeemed land.

    12. RULE OF JUSTICE
The establishment of a social order in the spirit of Jewish morality and prophetic justice. Under such an order no one will go hungry or unemployed. All will live in harmony, mutual respect and friendship as an example to the world.

    13. REVIVING THE WILDERNESS
Build the ruins and revive the wilderness for mass immigration and population increase.

    14. ALIENS
Solve the problem of alien [Arab] population by exchange of population.

    15. INGATHERING OF THE EXILES
Total in-gathering of the exiles to their sovereign state.

    16. POWER
The Hebrew nation shall become a first-rate military, political, cultural and economical entity in the Middle East and around the Mediterranean Sea.

    17. REVIVAL
The revival of the Hebrew language as a spoken language by the entire nation, the renewal of the historical and spiritual might of Israel. The purification of the national character in the fire of revival.

    18. THE TEMPLE
The building of the Third Temple as a symbol of the new era of total redemption¹⁰

It has been noted that “In rabbinic thinking, the reestablishment of the Davidic kingdom was tied to the Messiah, who was to be a descendant of King David. He would redeem the Jews from exile and reestablish their independence in the land of Israel. With this the world would be ushered into a new era of righteousness and universal peace.”¹¹ However, the constant war in the Middle East for more than half a century ever since the 1948 reestablishment of the modern State of Israel with its in-gathering of the exiles to their sovereign state shows it is surely not the expected Davidic kingdom tied to the  Messiah who would redeem the Jews from exile and reestablish their independence in the land of Israel ushering a new era of righteousness and universal peace. Consequently Jesus the Messiah has nothing to do with it.

Hos. 8: 1-4 “Put the trumpet to your lips! An eagle is over the house of the Lord
because the people have broken my covenant and rebelled against my law. Israel cries out to me, ‘Our God, we acknowledge you!’ But Israel has rejected what is good; an enemy will pursue him. They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval. With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction.”

Old Testament Terms and Conditions for the Israelites return to the land of Israel

Under the terms of the Old Covenant God told the Israelites these words recorded in Deut. 29: 9-12:  “Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do. 10 All of you are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God—your leaders and chief men, your elders and officials, and all the other men of Israel, 11 together with your children and your wives, and the foreigners living in your camps who chop your wood and carry your water. 12 You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God, a covenant the Lord is making with you this day and sealing with an oath… 19 When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way,” they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry. 20 The Lord will never be willing to forgive them; his wrath and zeal will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will fall on them, and the Lord will blot out their names from under heaven. 21 The Lord will single them out from all the tribes of Israel for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 22 Your children who follow you in later generations and foreigners who come from distant lands will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the Lord has afflicted it. 23 The whole land will be a burning waste of salt and sulfur—nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, which the Lord overthrew in fierce anger.24 All the nations will ask: “Why has the Lord done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?”

25 And the answer will be: “It is because this people abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, the covenant he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt. 26 They went off and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, gods they did not know, gods he had not given them. 27 Therefore the Lord’s anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book. 28 In furious anger and in great wrath the Lord uprooted them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.”

The only way the Israelites/Jews could be restored to the land is if they repented of their sins and followed the terms of the covenant as Deut. 30: 1-10 says: “When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations, and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you todaythen the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered youEven if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back.He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors. The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you. You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, 10 if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

New Testament Terms and Conditions to be a part of Israel

God in Christ has since inaugurated a New Covenant with Israel as Jesus said as recorded in Lk. 22: 20: “In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’” This new covenant was foretold by Jeremiah in Jer. 31: 31-34 and explained by in Heb. 8: 7-13 which says: “For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said:

“The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
10 This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

13 By calling this covenant ‘new,’ he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.”

As God pronounced judgment on national Israel for not following the terms of the Old Covenant resulting in destruction and exile from the land He also pronounced separation from the covenant people (Israel) and destruction and exile from the land on account of their rejection of the Messiah and the terms of the New Covenant (see Mat. 23: 37-39; 24: 1-2; Acts 3: 22-23). Exile from the land under the Old Covenant was enforced by invading foreign-tongue speaking armies. As Jerimiah 5: 15-19 says: “People of Israel,” declares the Lord,
“I am bringing a distant nation against you—
an ancient and enduring nation,
a people whose language you do not know,
whose speech you do not understand.
16 Their quivers are like an open grave;
all of them are mighty warriors.
17 They will devour your harvests and food,
devour your sons and daughters;
they will devour your flocks and herds,
devour your vines and fig trees.
With the sword they will destroy
the fortified cities in which you trust.

18 “Yet even in those days,” declares the Lord, “I will not destroy you completely. 19 And when the people ask, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all this to us?’ you will tell them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your own land, so now you will serve foreigners in a land not your own.’”

The book of Acts which records the momentous events of the transition between the Old and New Covenants records that on the day of Pentecost and on several other occasions God spoke to Israel through the use of foreign tongues as a sign of the impending judgment of an invading foreign-tongue speaking army which and was fulfilled in 70 AD when the Roman general Titus and his armies sacked Jerusalem. The apostle Paul, citing Isa. 28: 11-12, spoke to this issue in 1 Cor. 14: 21-22a when he said: “In the Law it is written: ‘With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners [i.e. invading armies] I will speak to this people [the Jews], but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.’22 Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers [those who have accepted Jesus as Messiah] but for unbelievers [those who have rejected Jesus as Messiah]…’”

By the way that’s why this particular sign gift ceased; since God’s judgment on Israel was fulfilled in 70 AD there was no longer any need for the sign gift.

The modern State of Israel and its people for the most part has not repented of its sin of rejecting Jesus as the Messiah. This ingathering of Jews to the land of Palestine establishing a State of Israel is illegitimate in light of God’s terms of repentance before restoration clearly laid out in Scripture under the Old Covenant (see again Deut. 30: 2-3).

This anomaly of a re-gathered Israel without repentance shows that the Old Covenant has indeed “disappeared” (see again Heb. 8: 13). If it didn’t there would be no way they would be re-gathered without following all the terms of the Old Covenant. As Deut. 28: 58 – 64 says: “If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God— 59 the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. 60 He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed. 62 You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the Lord your God. 63 Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess.

64 Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known” (see also Jos. 23: 6-13).

The fact is while a vast majority of unbelieving Jews may be re-gathered in the land of Israel they are really not Israel.  Under the terms of the New Covenant that privilege and right is reserved only for Christian Jews and Gentiles who accept Jesus as the Messiah (including Christian Arabs and Palistinians!) whether they reside in the land of Israel/Palestine or anywhere else around the world. In these New Testament days Israel has gone global in the Church of Jesus Christ (see Gen. 22: 18; Jn. 3: 16; 4: 19-24).

The present State of Israel (Israel by name but not Israel by God’s definition) is nothing but the result of purely unrepentant revolutionary human efforts to reestablish the ancient Davidic Kingdom without Jesus as the Messiah. This ingathering to the land is the work of purely self-willed and self-made efforts of antichrist Jews who seek their own Messiah, as Jesus said to the Jews: “I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.”

Commenting on this verse Pulpit Commentary at biblehub.com says: “I have come in the name (i.e. in the power, with the credentials, with the encompassing revelation) of my Father, and ye receive me not. Your idea of the Father’s glory is so profoundly different from the reality, that you do not recognize it when it is offered you and shining over you. Christ did not profess to have come in his own name. He was not a mere evolution of humanity, or of Israel, or of the house of David. He was the Only Begotten of the Father, born from above, sent down from heaven. The language of the world was, ‘This is not Divine;’ ‘It is too gentle, too gracious, too sympathetic for God!’ The religious world listened eagerly for some echo of the trumpet peals of Sinai. It desired a king greater than Solomon, a prophet more terrible than Elijah. When he came with the real glory robes of the love of God, and with the majesty of the Name of the Lord, there was widespread disappointment and cruel rejection of his commission. Should another come in his own (proper, peculiar) name, that is, with no testimony from heaven, seeking “honour (δόξα, glory) from men,” creating a sovereignty by enlisting the voices of men, compromising with evil, making no warfare against the power of the world, allowing the legitimacy of the throne of the prince of this world; – should he come in his own name, alas! him (that one) ye will receive. The eagerness on the part of the Jews to find the Messiah has led them to accept in some sort no fewer than sixty-four false Christs (Schudt, ‘Judische Merkwurdigkeit,’ 6:27-30; Bengel and Meyer)…”

Evangelical Christians, rather than blindly supporting the modern State of Israel in all she does, should be calling her to national repentance by accepting Jesus as the Messiah that she would truly become partaker in the New Covenant universal Israel of God – the Jew and Gentile comprised Church of Jesus Christ. They should tell her that rather than just being “Israel” by name, hypocritically and viciously chasing after the shadows of the long gone Old Covenant, she would become true Israel by nature and heirs of the reality of the promises only in Jesus Christ. But alas for the past 2000 years that privilege has only been and will continue to only be experienced by the remnant of Israel.

Addendum

There is striking but oft overlooked Scriptural indicator that the Jesus rejecting nation of Israel with its ancient capital of Jerusalem is really the whore of Revelation 17. The indicator is in the book of Revelation itself.

Rev. 11: 3, 7-8 says: “And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth…Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.  Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city—which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified.”

The city mentioned here is obviously Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified and which was figuratively called Sodom and Gomorrah in Isaiah 1: 1,10,15 which says: “The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah…Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah!…When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!”

The denunciation is again made in Isiah 3: 8-9 which says: “Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling;
their words and deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence. The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.”

While Amos 4: 10-11 identifies Israel with Egypt when it says: “I sent plagues among you as I did to Egypt. I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. “I overthrew some of you as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You were like a burning stick snatched from the fire, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord” (see also Jer.23:14; Ezek. 16: 44-58).

So Jerusalem is the great city that is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt. However, later in Revelation 17:18 we read that “The woman you saw [Babylon the great, the mother of prostitutes/harlots and of the abominations of the earth] is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”

So either you have two great cities being referred to in Revelation or they are one and the same. I submit that it’s a reference to the same city of Jerusalem which God also denounced as a prostitute/harlot in the same Isaiah chapter one where he figuratively called Jerusalem Sodom and Gomorrah. As Isaiah 1: 21 says: “See how the faithful city has become a prostitute! She once was full of justice; righteousness used to dwell in her— but now murderers!”

Her murderous deeds are echoed in Revelation 17: 6 which says: “I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.”

Jeremiah 3: 1-3 in its denunciation of Israel as a whore says: “If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and marries another man, should he return to her again? Would not the land be completely defiled? But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers—would you now return to me?” declares the Lord. “Look up to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been ravished? By the roadside you sat waiting for lovers, sat like a nomad in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution and wickedness. Therefore the showers have been withheld, and no spring rains have fallen. Yet you have the brazen look of a prostitute; you refuse to blush with shame.”

This passage in Jeremiah about unfaithful whoring Israel is perfectly echoed in Revelation 18: 2b-3 which speaking of the whore Babylon the great city says: “…all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.”

Remarkably, to this very day the Jesus rejecting modern State of Israel in its correspondence to the first century Jesus rejecting nation of Israel identifies itself as the whore of Revelation with the mysterious name written on her forehead “Babylon the Great, Mother of All Prostitutes and Obscenities in the World” (Rev. 17: 5, New Living Translation) via the symbol boldly emblazoned on its national flag know as the “Star of David”, “Shield of David” or the “Seal of Solomon.” In reality this symbol has nothing to do with ancient King David but rather its an ancient pagan obscene sex symbol associated with pagan sex worship which is very important to Freemasonry and other occult groups. As Masonic authority Albert Mackey, writing in his book The Symbolism of Freemasonry said: “The triangle pointing downward is a female symbol corresponding to the yoni [female sex organ/vagina] and the upward pointing triangle is the male, the lingam [male sex organ/penis] … When the two triangles are interlaced, it represents the union of the active and passive forces in nature; it represents the male and female elements [i.e. the sex act]” (The Symbolism of Freemasonry, p. 195, 219, 361, pub. 1869).

For more insight into the true meaning of the “Star of David” see the article “Sex-Crazed Pagan Roots of ‘Star of David'” posted at http://www.weeklyuniverse.com/2004/hexagram.htm

So biblically speaking the Jesus rejecting nation of Israel with its ancient city of Jerusalem “the great city” does not have a lot going for it as it is (under the judgement of God) likened unto Hagar the slave woman (Gal.4: 25), Ishmael the child of the flesh and not of promise (Gal.4: 28-29), Sodom and Gomorrah (Rev. 11: 7-8) and Babylon the great whore (Rev. 17: 5, 18).

Ancient Flood Legends Compared to the Biblical Account of Noah’s Flood

By Roger Marshall*

Overview from the Bible

  1. It came from God as judgment on MAN’S GREAT WICKEDNESS (Gen. 6: 5-7,11-13)
  2. God had patiently WAITED for mankind to REPENT (Gen. 6: 3; 1 Pet. 3: 20)
  3. God instructed Noah to build a large ark i.e. a BOAT/SHIP (Ge. 6: 14-16)
  4. Only RIGHTEOUS Noah and his family of EIGHT, along with TWO of every animal and FOOD SUPPLIES were saved aboard the ark (Gen. 6: 17-21; 7:1-16; cf. 1 Pet. 3: 20)
  5. The flood came when all the fountains of THE GREAT DEEP BROKE UP and the windows of heaven were opened (Gen 7:11)
  6. The flood covered ALL THE EARTH AND IT’S MOUNTAINS (Gen.7: 18)
  7. Noah released two BIRDS a RAVEN and DOVE from the Ark to search for dry land. The RAVEN DID NOT RETURN but THE DOVE RETURNED with a LEAF in its beak indicating to Noah the water had receded from the earth (Gen. 8: 6-12)
  8. At the end of the flood THE ARK RESTED ON THE MOUNTAINS of Ararat and Noah offered animal SACRIFICES to God (Gen. 8: 20)
  9. God set a RAINBOW in the sky as a sign that he will never destroy the whole earth with a flood (Ge. 9: 12-16)
  10. After the flood Noah’s three sons and their wives REPOPULATED the earth (Gen. 10: 1-32)

Let’s now compare these ten key points of the biblical flood account with just a few of the well over 500 flood stories/legends found in ancient cultures all over the world long before some of the descendants of these ancient people heard about the Bible and Christianity.

YOU WILL SEE THAT THESE EXTRA-BIBLICAL ACCOUNTS OF A GLOBAL FLOOD ARE ALL ESSENTIALLY TELLING THE VERY SAME STORY AS THAT RECORDED IN THE BIBLE!

Ancient Australian Aborigines

Long, long ago there was a great flood. Ngowungu, the Great Father became very angry and decided to drown the people. The flood rose higher and higher till all the land was covered except the tops of two or three mountains.

From further west a man and his wives with a dog were battling their way in a canoe (a BOAT) when a BIRD with a LEAF in its mouth flew in front of them showing them the way to MT. BROOME.

Ancient Aztecs

A man named Tapi lived a long time ago. Tapi was a very PIOUS/RIGHTEOUS man. The creator told Tapi to BUILD A BOAT that he would live in. He was told that he should take his wife, A PAIR of every animal that was alive into this boat. Naturally everyone thought he was crazy. Then the rain started and the flood came. The men and animals tried to climb the mountains but THE MOUNTAINS BECAME FLOODED AS WELL. Finally the rain ended. Tapi decided that the water had dried up when he let a DOVE loose that did not return.

In another account the Aztecs believed that only Coxcox and his wife, Xochiquetzal, survived the flood. They took refuge in the hollow trunk of a cypress, which floated on top of the water and finally banked on a MOUNTAIN in Culhuacan. They had many children, but all of them were dumb. The Great Spirit took pity on them, and sent a DOVE, which attempted to teach the children how to speak. Fifteen of them succeeded and from these, the Aztecs believed, the Toltecs and Aztecs were descended.

In yet another account, the Nahua god Tezcatlipoca (seen at right) spoke to a man named Nata and his wife Nana, saying: “Do not busy yourselves any longer making pulque, but hollow out for yourselves a large boat of an ahuehuete [cyprus] tree, and make your home in it when you see the waters rising to the sky.” When flood waters came, the Earth disappeared and THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN TOPS were covered in water. All other men perished, being transformed into fish. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coxcox).

Still another says that “During the era of the fourth sun, the Sun of Water, THE PEOPLE GREW VERY WICKED and ignored the worship of the gods. The gods became angry and Tlaloc, the god of rains, announced that he was going to DESTROY THE WORLD with a flood. However, Tlaloc (the rain god) was fond of a DEVOUT couple, Tata and Nena, and he warned them of the flood. He instructed them to hollow out a great log and take two ears of corn-one for each of them-and eat nothing more.

So Tata and Nena entered the tree trunk with the two ears of corn, and it began to rain. When the rains subsided and Tata and Nena’s log landed on dry land, they were so happy that they caught a fish and ate it, contrary to the orders of Tlaloc. It was only after their stomachs were full that they remembered Tlaloc’s command.

Tlaloc then appeared to them and said, ‘This is how I am repaid for saving your lives?’ They were then changed into dogs. It was at this point, where even the most righteous people were disobedient, that the gods destroyed the world, ushering in the present era of the Fifth Sun” (http://www.bigorrin.org/archive33.htm)

Ancient Babylonia

The god Ea warned Utnapishtim of the imminent destruction of the earth; the ARK built was cube-shaped, and held his family of EIGHT persons and all animals.  At the end of the flood a RAVEN and DOVE were used to search for dry land (The Epic of Gilgamesh 2500 to 2000 B.C.)

Ancient Chaldea

Xisuthrus was warned of a coming flood by the god Chronos, who ordered him to build a BOAT in which to carry family, friends totaling EIGHT persons, and TWO of every kind of animal. At the end of the flood BIRDS were used to find land.

Ancient China

Hihking; The Chinese classic record details of how Fuhi survived a great flood by gathering his wife, three sons and three daughters (totaling EIGHT persons) together in a LARGE BOAT, whereupon they REPOPULATED the earth afterwards.

Another Chinese account tells of Nu Wa who saved the earth from the water god Gong Gong who smashed his head against MOUNT Buzhou, a pillar holding up the sky, collapsing it and causing great floods and suffering among the people (see http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Nuwa)

Ancient Egypt

The Egyptian flood legend begins with the sun god Ra, who feared that people were going to overthrow him. He sent the goddess Hathor to punish the people. But she killed so many that their blood, flowing into the Nile River and the ocean, caused A FLOOD. The SURVIVORS of her bloodbath STARTED THE HUMAN RACE ANEW.

In ancient Egypt, the Flood hero was Toth who survived the Deluge along with the Seven Sages totaling EIGHT persons (http://nwcreation.net/articles/ancientsknew.html)

Additionally in ancient Egypt, Nun (oldest of the ancient Egyptian gods also spelled Nu) and his female counterpart, Naunet, and three further pairs together formed the Ogdoad (group of EIGHT gods). The ancient Egyptians believed the Ogdoad were directly responsible for the creation (rebirth) of the human race in the new world as well as its upkeep.

In ancient Egyptian art the Ogdoad are depicted in a BOAT held aloft by Nun/Nu (seen at right) whose name means “primeval waters,” as he represented the waters of chaos out of which Re-Atum began creation. A pyramid-shaped mound, called the benben, was the first thing to emerge from the waters like a MOUNTAIN peak.

Ancient Greece

Deucalion and Pyrrha were warned by the god Prometheus about the flood and told to build a chest; they survived when the chest LANDED ON A HIGH MOUNTAIN called Mt. Parnassus (The Parian Chronicle 1581 B.C.  to 264 BC)

Ancient Hawaii

A man named Nu’u built a GREAT canoe (BOAT) to escape a great flood. He landed his vessel on top of Mauna Kea (a MOUNTAIN) on the Big Island. The man accidently attributed the cause of his safety to the moon god, and made SACRIFICES to the wrong god. Kane, the actual creator god descended to the man from a RAINBOW telling him of his error.

Ancient India

In various Hindu traditions, Manu, is a title accorded to the progenitor of mankind, and also the very first king to rule this earth, who saved mankind from the great flood, after being warned of it by the Matsya avatar of Vishnu, who told him to build A GIANT BOAT and populate it with his family of EIGHT people, animals, and nine types of seeds. The boat was perched after the flood on the top of the Malaya MOUNTAINS.

Ancient Malaysia

The Malay Peninsula’s flood myth says that the land we live on is a skin covering water and that long ago a deity BROKE IT UP and the world was flooded and destroyed aside from one man and woman that the deity saved by placing in a SHIP.

Ancient Mexico

Found in the histories of the Toltec Indians of ancient Mexico is a story of the first world that lasted 1,716 years and was destroyed by a great flood that covered even THE HIGHEST MOUNTAINS. The story tells of a few men who escaped the destruction in a “toptlipetlocali,” which means a closed chest.

Ancient Nigeria

The Yoruba of southwest Nigeria talk about an adrogynous god Olokun who in a fit of rage, destroyed nearly everybody in a great flood.

Ancient Native North American Choctaw people

The Great Spirit destroyed a CORUPT AND WICKED human race and all life on earth, except a PROPHET who went in vain to warn the people to REPENT or die. The prophet survived by building a raft of sassafras logs.

When the floods came the prophet floated safely on the waters for several weeks. He saw a large black BIRD circling the raft and asked for help, but the bird uttered a few croaks and flew away, never to be seen again.

After more time had lapsed a small blue BIRD was seen which guided him to an island. Once on land the prophet was surprised to discover that every variety of animal known prior to the flood had been saved.

Amongst the birds he noticed the large black bird that had visited and deserted him while he was on the raft. He named the bird ‘fulushto’ – the RAVEN. Since that time the Choctaws consider this bird as a sign of an ill omen.

After a few days the prophet saw the blue bird who had guided him to safety and called it Puchi Yushuba. Once the waters had finally subsided the Great Spirit changed Puchi Yushuba into a beautiful woman who became his wife. THEIR CHILDREN REPOPULATED the Earth.

Ancient Native North American Ojibwe people

There came a time when the harmonious way of life did not continue. Men and women disrespected each other, families quarreled and soon villages began arguing back and forth. This saddened Gitchie Manido [the Creator] greatly, but he WAITED. Finally, when it seemed there was no hope left, Creator decided to purify Mother Earth through the use of water. The water came, flooding the Earth, catching all of creation off guard. All but a few of each living thing survived.

Ancient Southwest Tanzania

Once upon a time the rivers began to flood. The god told two people to get into a ship. He told them to take lots of seed and to take lots of animals. The water of the flood eventually COVERED THE MOUNTAINS. Finally the flood stopped. Then one of the men, wanting to know if the water had dried up let a DOVE loose. THE DOVE RETURNED. Later he let loose a hawk which DID NOT RETURN. Then the men left the boat and took the animals and the seeds with them.

Ancient Sumeria

The god Enki warns Ziudsura, PIOUS, GOD-FEARING and humble king, to build a LARGE BOAT due to the coming destruction of the earth. According to one source, the ancient Sumerian text recounting the flood says in part: “All the windstorms, exceedingly powerful, attacked as one, the deluge raged over the surface of the earth.”

After the flood which lasted seven days and seven nights, Ziudsura opened a window of the huge boat (cf. Gen. 8: 6), disembarked and offered SACRIFICES to the gods.

SOME CLOSING THOUGHTS

Since the ancient Egyptians like many other ancient cultures also knew about the world-wide, devastating, chaotic flood of Noah’s day it sheds much light on the true identity of Nun/Nu his wife Naunet and the three other pairs (totaling EIGHT in all) who form the Ogdoad (group of EIGHT gods).

Nun/Nu, is the ancient Egyptians name for Noah, his female counterpart Naunet, was their name for Noah’s wife and the three further pairs Amun and Amaunet (invisibility), Heh and Hauhet (infinity) and Kek and Kauket (darkness) are their three sons and their wives who together formed the Ogdoad who create mankind (i.e. repopulate the earth) after the flood.

The waters of “Noah’s flood” (as it is still commonly called today) were personified by the ancient Egyptians and in a similar way given the name of the patriarch himself thus the waters were known as “Nu/Nun” i.e. “the primeval waters” of chaos which catastrophically flooded the earth. It was from these very waters that the earth and the entire universe were originally created (see Genesis 1: 1-31). As 2 Peter 3: 3-6 says: “…long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed OUT OF WATER and BY WATER. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.”

The ancient Egyptians also knew this fact as attested to in the “Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Book of Going Forth by Day” translated by Raymond Faulkner in which we find these words: “People had become rebellious. The god Atum said he will destroy all he made and return the earth to the Primordial Water (Nun) which was its original state…” (https://www.mythoreligio.com/15-flood-myths-similar-to-the-story-of-noah/)

“Nu” was a common name referring to “Noah” which was used by other ancient cultures besides the Egyptians. For example to the ancient Hawaiians (cited earlier) Noah was known as “Nu’u”. While Noah’s name is preserved in ancient Hindu culture as the god “VishnuTHE PRESERVER. Etymologically “Vishnu” is just the Sanskrit (an ancient Indic language of India) form of the Chaldee “Ish-nuh”.  Chaldee is an ancient Sanskrit sister language from Babylonia. In Chaldee “Ish” means “man” “nuh” means “Noah”. Thus “Ishnuh” from which “Vishnu” is derived means “the man Noah” (see Rev. Alexander Hislop, “The Two Babylons”, p. 135, pub. 1916).

It was Vishnu (“the man Noah”) in his avatar of the fish who told Manu, the Hindu flood hero, to build a giant boat and populate it with his family of EIGHT people, animals, and 9 types of seeds.

Understanding that in Hinduism “Manu” is the name of the archetypal man, or the first man (progenitor of humanity) who is thus the equivalent of the biblical Adam, I submit that the Hindu depiction of Manu and the seven sages being led and guided to safety by Vishnu the preserver through the waters of the great flood is symbolic of Noah (represented by the fish) and his family PRESERVING Adam’s seed (represented by Manu on the boat) via their survival on the Ark.

As the saying goes when there is smoke there is fire. All these ancient stories above from vastly different places and cultures are telling the very same story corroborating the truthfulness of the account found in the Bible which is exactly what we would expect. For if the flood did occur it would be expected that many other cultures all over the world would also recall the event since they are descended from Noah and his children who were eventually deified as “gods” by some of those said descendants. It would also be expected that though oral transcription might change the details through time the key points of the story would yet prevail. That’s exactly what we do find!

Some may ask “how do we know the Bible’s account is accurate?” That is a reasonable question. It could easily say that the Bible claims that its ancient writings are God inspired and thus accurate (see 2 Tim.3: 16) but in addition to that, internal biblical evidence, supported by archeological findings, strongly suggest that the account of the Flood in Genesis are the actual eye witness written accounts of Noah and his three sons which were later compiled by Moses in his book of beginnings (see Who Wrote Genesis? http://creation.com/who-wrote-genesis-are-the-toledoth-colophons)

Noah’s flood was a literal historical event just as the Bible says. The Bible is trustworthy!!

Ancient Egyptian consciousness of God’s moral law

By Roger Marshall*

“Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law [of Moses] do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them” (Rom. 2: 14-15, NIV)

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14, KJV)

“…it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9: 27, KJV)

The ancient Egyptians were very conscious of the fact that all men are sinners in need of salvation, a salvation that would prevent them from being condemned as sinners to eternal damnation/destruction when they face the judgement of God/the gods in the afterlife. However, they also believed that they could trick their divine judges into accepting them into paradise by employing certain magic formulas whereby they would be able to successfully deny their sins thus saving themselves from eternal damnation. These magic formulas were contained in the “Book of Coming Forth by Day”, or the “Book of Emerging Forth into the Light” more commonly known simply as the “Book of the Dead”. The mortuary spells, magic texts, and accompanying illustrations called vignettes were written on sheets of papyrus, the walls of tombs and coffins. They were placed with the dead in order to help them pass through the dangers of the underworld (spirit realm) and attain an afterlife of bliss in the “Field of Peace” which was also known as the Field of Offerings, Field of Reeds, or Blessed Fields.

This detail scene, from the Papyrus of Hunefer (c. 1275 BCE), shows the scribe Hunefer’s heart being weighed on the scale of Maat against the feather of truth, by the jackal-headed Anubis. The ibis-headed Thoth, scribe of the gods, records the result. If his heart equals exactly the weight of the feather, Hunefer is allowed to pass into the afterlife. If not, he is eaten by the waiting chimeric devouring creature Ammit composed of the deadly crocodile, lion, and hippopotamus. Vignettes such as these were a common illustration in Egyptian books of the dead.

Following are the “negative confessions” from the Papyrus of Ani/The Declaration of Innocence from the Book of the Dead (dated 1240 BC) which was translated by E.A. Wallis Budge (1857-1934) an English Egyptologist, Orientalist, and philologist who worked for the British Museum and published numerous works on the ancient Near East. When compared with the teachings of the ancient Scriptures which comprise the Holy Bible it shows that the ancient Egyptians knew exactly what sin was though ultimately they sought to deny that they were guilty.

  1. Hail, Usekh-nemmt, who comest forth from Anu, I have not committed sin.

(Confession # 1 shows that the ancient Egyptians knew and believed that there is such a thing as sin which is the violation of God’s moral law. The Bible says: “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law [of God]: for sin is the transgression of the law [of God]”, 1 John 3: 4)

  1. Hail, Hept-khet, who comest forth from Kher-aha, I have not committed robbery with violence (Confessions #2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9,15,39,40 & 41 shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that stealing is a sin. The Bible says: “You must not steal”, Exodus 20: 15. While Ephesians 4: 28 says: “Let the thief no longer steal, but ratherlet him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” )
  2. Hail, Fenti, who comest forth from Khemenu, I have not stolen.
  3. Hail, Am-khaibit, who comest forth from Qernet, I have not slain men and women (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that murder is a sin. The Bible says: “You must not murder”, Ex. 20: 13. While 1 John 3: 15 says: “Anyone who hates a brother or sisteris a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.”)
  4. Hail, Neha-her, who comest forth from Rasta, I have not stolen grain.
  5. Hail, Ruruti, who comest forth from heaven, I have not purloined offerings.
  6. Hail, Arfi-em-khet, who comest forth from Suat, I have not stolen the property of God.
  7. Hail, Neba, who comest and goest, I have not uttered lies (Confessions 8, 14 & 16 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that lying is a sin. The Bible in Exodus 20: 16 says: “You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.” While Ephesians 4: 25 says: “Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfullyto your neighbor, for we are all members of one body” and Colossians 3: 9 says: “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.”)
  8. Hail, Set-qesu, who comest forth from Hensu, I have not carried away food.
  9. Hail, Utu-nesert, who comest forth from Het-ka-Ptah, I have not uttered curses (Confessions 10 & 37 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that cursing is a sin. The Message Bible says in Ex. 20: 7 says: “No using the name ofGod, your God, in curses or silly banter; God won’t put up with the irreverent use of his name.” While Ephesians 4: 29 (ISV) says: “Let no filthy talk be heard from your mouths, but only what is good for building up people and meeting the need of the moment. This way you will administer grace to those who hear you.”)
  10. Hail, Qerrti, who comest forth from Amentet, I have not committed adultery, I have not lain with men. (Confessions 10, 18 & 19 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that adultery like homosexuality is a sin. The Bible in Exodus 20: 14 says: “You shall not commit adultery.” While Jesus in Matthew 5: 27 said: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Leviticus 18: 22 says: “You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman: it is abomination.” While 1 Corinthians 6: 9 says: “Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality”).
  11. Hail, Her-f-ha-f, who comest forth from thy cavern, I have made none to weep (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that insulting and oppressing others is a sin. The Bible in Proverbs 11: 12 says: “Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.” While Proverbs 14: 31 says: “He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.”)
  12. Hail, Basti, who comest forth from Bast, I have not eaten the heart (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that cannibalism is a sin. The Bible closely associates descent into cannibalism with the final stages of judgment from God on his people because of their sins thus marking it as a loathsome and evil practice.)
  13. Hail, Ta-retiu, who comest forth from the night, I have not attacked any man (Confessions 13 & 22 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that aggravated assault of others is a sin. The Bible in Exodus 21: 15 says: “Anyone who attackstheir father or mother is to be put to death.”).
  14. Hail, Unem-snef, who comest forth from the execution chamber, I am not a man of deceit.
  15. Hail, Unem-besek, who comest forth from Mabit, I have not stolen cultivated land.
  16. Hail, Neb-Maat, who comest forth from Maati, I have not been an eavesdropper (Confessions 15 & 29 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that meddling in the affairs of others is a sin. The Bible in 1 Peter 4: 15 says: “If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.”)
  17. Hail, Tenemiu, who comest forth from Bast, I have not slandered [any man].
  18. Hail, Sertiu, who comest forth from Anu, I have not been angry without just cause. (Confessions 17 & 23 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that unjust anger is a sin. Jesus in Matthew 5: 22 says: “But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca,’ shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say, ‘Thou fool,’ shall be in danger of hell fire.” (NLT). While James 1: 20 says: “Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires”, NLT)
  19. Hail, Tutu, who comest forth from Ati, I have not debauched the wife of any man.
  20. Hail, Uamenti, who comest forth from the Khebt chamber, I have not debauched the wife of [any] man.
  21. Hail, Maa-antuf, who comest forth from Per-Menu, I have not polluted myself. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that sin is likened to pollution. The Bible in Ezekiel 14: 11 says: “In this way, the people of Israel will learn not to stray from me, polluting themselves with sin. They will be my people, and I will be their God. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!”)
  22. Hail, Her-uru, who comest forth from Nehatu, I have terrorized none.
  23. Hail, Khemiu, who comest forth from Kaui, I have not transgressed [the law]. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that sin is transgression of God’s law. The Bible says in 1 John 3: 4 says : “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”, KJV)
  24. Hail, Shet-kheru, who comest forth from Urit, I have not been wroth.
  25. Hail, Nekhenu, who comest forth from Heqat, I have not shut my ears to the words of truth. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that refusing the truth is a sin. The Bible in 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 says: “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”, NIV)
  26. Hail, Kenemti, who comest forth from Kenmet, I have not blasphemed. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that blasphemy is a sin. The Bible in Matthew 12: 31 says: “And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven” (NIV).
  27. Hail, An-hetep-f, who comest forth from Sau, I am not a man of violence. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that violence is a sin. The Bible in Genesis 6: 11 says “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence”, KJV)
  28. Hail, Sera-kheru, who comest forth from Unaset, I have not been a stirrer up of strife. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that stirring up strife among people is a sin. The Bible in Proverbs 6: 16-19 says: “There are six things theLord  In fact, he hates seven things. The Lord hates proud eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that kill those who aren’t guilty. He also hates hearts that make evil plans and feet that are quick to do evil. He hates any witness who pours out lies and anyone who stirs up conflict in the community” NIRV)
  29. Hail, Neb-heru, who comest forth from Netchfet, I have not acted with undue haste. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that hastiness which is often an outworking of anger is a sin. The Bible in Ecclesiastes says: “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools”, KJB)
  30. Hail, Sekhriu, who comest forth from Uten, I have not pried into matters.
  31. Hail, Neb-abui, who comest forth from Sauti, I have not multiplied my words in speaking. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that using the tongue unwisely is a sin. The Bible speaks of this sin in the book of Job 35: 16 which says: “So Job opens his mouth with empty talk; without knowledge he multiplies words.” NIV).
  32. Hail, Nefer-Tem, who comest forth from Het-ka-Ptah, I have wronged none, I have done no evil. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that doing wrong to others and giving into evil is a sin. The Bible in Romans 12: 17-21 says: “Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” KJV)
  33. Hail, Tem-Sepu, who comest forth from Tetu, I have not worked witchcraft against the king. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that witchcraft/sorcery/divination is a sin. The Bible strongly condemns witchcraft equating it with rebellion against God. As it says in 1 Samuel 15: 23 “For rebellionis as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.”
  34. Hail, Ari-em-ab-f, who comest forth from Tebu, I have never stopped [the flow of] water. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that selfishness is a sin. The Bible says: “A generous person will be enriched, and the one who provides water for others will himself be satisfied”, Proverbs 11:25 NET Bible)
  35. Hail, Ahi, who comest forth from Nu, I have never raised my voice. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that lack of self-control is a sin. The Bible says the following about this sin.

Proverbs 15:1 “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.”

Proverbs 29:22 “An angry person starts fights; a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin.”

Proverbs 29:11 “A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back.”

Proverbs 17:19 “Whoever loves a quarrel loves sin; whoever builds a high gate invites destruction.”)

  1. Hail, Uatch-rekhit, who comest forth from Sau, I have not cursed God.
  2. Hail, Neheb-ka, who comest forth from thy cavern, I have not acted with arrogance. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that pride is a sin. The Bible says: “He [God] has no use for conceited people, but shows favor to those who are humble”, Proverbs 3:34; “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble”; James 4: 6; ““God resists the proud, but shows favor to the humble”, 1 Peter 5: 5).
  3. Hail, Neheb-nefert, who comest forth from thy cavern, I have not stolen the bread of the gods.
  4. Hail, Tcheser-tep, who comest forth from the shrine, I have not carried away the khenfu cakes from the Spirits of the dead.
  5. Hail, An-af, who comest forth from Maati, I have not snatched away the bread of the child, nor treated with contempt the god of my city.
  6. Hail, Hetch-abhu, who comest forth from Ta-she, I have not slain the cattle belonging to the god. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that, as the Bible says: “Whoever kills an animal must make restitution”, Leviticus 24: 21)

From the Papyrus of Nu

From the Book of the Dead
Translated by E.A. Wallis Budge
Brit. Mus. No. 10477, Sheet 22
[THE FOLLOWING] WORDS SHALL BE SAID BY THE STEWARD OF THE KEEPER OF THE SEAL, NU, WHOSE WORD IS TRUTH, WHEN HE COMETH FORTH TO THE HALL OF MAATI, SO THAT HE MAY BE SEPARATED FROM EVERY SIN WHICH HE HATH COMMITTED, AND MAY BEHOLD THE FACES OF THE GODS.

  1. The Osiris Nu, whose word is truth, saith: Homage to thee, O great God, Lord of Maati! I have come unto thee, O my Lord, and I have brought myself hither that I may behold thy beauties. I know thee, I know thy name, I know the names of the Forty-two Gods who live with thee in this Hall of Maati, who live by keeping ward over sinners, and who feed upon their blood on the day when the consciences of men are reckoned up in the presence of the god Un-Nefer. In truth thy name is Rehti-Merti-Nebti-Maati. In truth I have come unto thee, I have brought Maati (Truth) to thee. I have done away sin for thee.

  1. I have not committed sins against men. (This confession shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that committing offences against fellow human being is a sin. The Bible also speaks about sin against men. Genesis 42: 22 says “Reuben replied, ‘Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.’” (NIV)

1 Samuel 2: 25 says: “If one person sins against another, God may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will intercede for them?” (NIV)

1 Samuel 19: 4 says: “And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:” (KJV)

  1. I have not opposed my family and kinsfolk. (This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that family feuds is a sin. The Bible warns against this sin. 1 John 3: 12 says: “Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.”
  2. I have not acted fraudulently in the Seat of Truth.

Like Confessions #8, 14 & 16 in the Papyrus of Ani this negative confession again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that lying is a sin.

  1. I have not known men who were of no account [i.e. worthless; good-for-nothing persons]. This shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that keeping bad company is a sin. The Bible in warning against this sin says: “Blessed is the person who does not follow the advice of wicked people, take the path of sinners, or join the company of mockers” (Psalm 1:1, God’s Word Translation)
  2. I have not wrought evil.

Like Confession #33 in the Papyrus of Ani this negative confession again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that doing wrong to others and giving into evil is a sin. The Bible says in Romans 12: 21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”

  1. I have not made it to be the first [consideration daily that unnecessary] work should be done for me.
  2. I have not brought forward my name for dignities.
  3. I have not [attempted] to direct servants. [1]
  4. [I have not belittled God].

Like Confessions #27 & 37 in the Papyrus of Ani this negative confession again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that blasphemy is a sin.

  1. I have not defrauded the humble man of his property.

Like Confessions #2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9,15,39,40 & 41 in the Papyrus of Ani this negative confession along with 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 & 30 again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that stealing is a sin.

  1. I have not done what the gods abominate. The Bible says: “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers” (Proverbs 6: 16-19)
  2. I have not vilified a slave to his master.

Like Confessions #29 in the Papyrus of Ani this negative confession again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that stirring up strife among people is a sin.

  1. I have not inflicted pain.

Confessions 14, 15 & 16 show that the ancient Egyptians knew that unkindness to others is a sin. The Bible in Ephesians 4: 31-32 says: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

  1. I have not caused anyone to go hungry. The Bible in condemning this sin says: “Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (James 2: 15-16, NIV)
  2. I have not made any man to weep.
  3. I have not committed murder.

This negative confession along with #18 again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that murder is a sin.

  1. I have not given the order for murder to be committed.
  2. I have not caused calamities to befall men and women.
  3. I have not plundered the offerings in the temples.
  4. I have not defrauded the gods of their cake-offerings.
  5. I have not carried off the fenkhu cakes [offered to] the Spirits.
  6. I have not committed fornication.

This negative confession shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that sex before marriage is a sin. The Bible in warning against this sin gives the following admonitions:

  • “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6: 18, KJV).
  • “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints” (Ephesians 5: 3, KJV)
  • “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication” (1 Thessalonians 4: 3)
  1. I have not masturbated [in the sanctuaries of the god of my city]. This again shows that the ancient Egyptians knew that sexual perversion is a sin. The Bible says: “Therefore consider the members [sex organs]of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry” (Colossians 3: 5)

“…each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor” (1 Thessalonians 4:4)

  1. I have not diminished from the bushel.
  2. I have not filched [land from my neighbour’s estate and] added it to my own acre.
  3. I have not encroached upon the fields [of others].
  4. I have not added to the weights of the scales.
  5. I have not depressed the pointer of the balance.
  6. I have not carried away the milk from the mouths of children. Confessions # 25-30 again show that the ancient Egyptians knew that stealing is a sin.
  7. I have not driven the cattle away from their pastures.
  8. I have not snared the geese in the goose-pens of the gods.
  9. I have not caught fish with bait made of the bodies of the same kind of fish.
  10. I have not stopped water when it should flow.
  11. I have not made a cutting in a canal of running water.
  12. I have not violated the times [of offering] the chosen meat offerings.
  13. I have not driven away the cattle on the estates of the gods.
  14. I have not turned back the god at his appearances.

  1. I am pure. I am pure. I am pure. My pure offerings are the pure offerings of that great Benu which dwelleth in Hensu. For behold, I am the nose of Neb-nefu (the lord of the air), who giveth sustenance unto all mankind, on the day of the filling of the Utchat in Anu, in the second month of the season Pert, on the last of the month, [in the presence of the Lord of this earth]. I have seen the filling of the Utchat in Anu, therefore let not calamity befall me in this land, or in this Hall of Maati, because I know the names of the gods who are therein, [and who are the followers of the Great God].

Despite the common ground on which the Bible and the ancient Egyptians stand in declaring for the most part what sin is, the stark contrast to the negative confessions of the ancient Egyptians is that the Bible says that ALL HAVE SINNED and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3: 23). In other words no one on earth past or present can ever say that they have not committed any one of these sins delineated by the ancient Egyptians. To which the Bible says: “If someone obeys all of God’s laws except one, that person is guilty of breaking all of them” (James 2: 10).

Yet again it says: “…the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God” (Romans 3: 19).

Thus the Bible further says “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth [Maat] is not in us” (1 John 1: 8)

So while the ancient Egyptians sought to proclaim their innocence in their over 42 negative confessions, the ancient Scriptures of the Holy Bible proclaims that we are really guilty.

If we take an honest look at ourselves and our fellowman we full well know that we have all sinned in one way or the other. It isn’t that I have not committed sin rather it is that I HAVE COMMITTED SIN!

The solution to the sin problem isn’t to deny our sins in negative confessions (as the ancient Egyptians did) rather it is to admit our sins in POSITIVE confessions. As the Bible again says: “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy” (Proverbs 28: 13, NIV).

And again it says: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1: 9)

The Bible further says that God in His justice and righteousness cannot let sin go unpunished. That’s why death exists. As the Scripture proclaims: “…the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6: 23a, NIV). However, in His great love for and mercy towards mankind God took upon Himself the punishment for our sins in the person of Jesus Christ that we might be forgiven on account of His substitutionary death.  As the Bible says: “For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them.  And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’ For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2 Corinthians 5: 19-21, NLT) and again “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3: 18a, NIV). Further still the Bible proclaims “He [Christ Jesus] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2: 2, NIV).

Now that’s grace, mercy and Maat (TRUTH)!!

Conclusion

Since the ancient Egyptians believed in sin, and since what they identified to be sin is for the most part identical to what the Bible teaches about sin and its consequences; why do most modern day Afrocentrists reject the Bible? Could it be that they don’t want to hear the Bible’s message that all men are sinners in need of a Saviour? If so are they really seekers after truth (Maat)?

You be the judge.

The Name of Jesus

Philippians 2: 9-11 says:

“For this reason God highly exalted Him [Jesus/Joshua]
and gave Him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus [Joshua]
every knee will bow—
of those who are in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
11 and every tongue should confess
that Jesus [Joshua] Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”

This passage of Scripture is often used by Christians to say that the name Jesus/Joshua/ Yehoshua/ Yeshua is the name which is above every name. But is that what the text above is actually saying?

To better understand this text we need to go into the Old Testament when God revealed Himself to Moses at the burning bush.

Ex. 3: 13-14 says: “Moses said to God, ‘Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them? God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am.’ [YHWH/YAHWEH] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (NIV)

Then Psalm 8: 1 says: “Lord [YAHWEH], our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” (NIV)

Isaiah 45: 18-23 says the following;

“For You, Lord [YAHWEH],
are the Most High over all the earth;
You are exalted above all the gods (Psalm 97: 9, NIV)

For this is what the Lord [YAHWEH] says—
God is the Creator of the heavens.
He formed the earth and made it.
He established it;
He did not create it to be empty,
but formed it to be inhabited—
“I am Yahweh,
and there is no other.
19 I have not spoken in secret,
somewhere in a land of darkness.
I did not say to the descendants of Jacob:
Seek Me in a wasteland.
I, Yahweh, speak truthfully;
I say what is right.

20 “Come, gather together,
and draw near, you fugitives of the nations.
Those who carry their wooden idols,
and pray to a god who cannot save,
have no knowledge.
21 Speak up and present your case—
yes, let them take counsel together.
Who predicted this long ago?
Who announced it from ancient times?
Was it not I, Yahweh?
There is no other God but Me,
a righteous God and Savior;
there is no one except Me.
22 Turn to Me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth.
For I am God,
and there is no other.
23 By Myself I have sworn;
Truth has gone from My mouth,
a word that will not be revoked:
Every knee will bow to Me [YAHWEH],
every tongue will swear allegiance. (HCSB)

From these verses of Scripture we see that it is God’s name (YHWH/YAHWEH) which is majestic in all the earth, supreme above all other names and unto which every knee will bow and every tongue swear allegiance.

How then should we truly understand Philippians 2: 9-11 which says that God gave Jesus the name that is above every name and that at the name of Jesus/Joshua every knee will bow
of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth?

Is the name Yehoshua/Yeshua/Joshua which means “YAHWEH is salvation” above the actual name YAHWEH?

Yehoshua/Yeshua/Joshua was a very common name when Christ was on earth.

Did those other people who were also named Yehoshua/Yeshua/Joshua have a name which is above the name YAHWEH?

Did Moses’ aide Yehoshua/Yeshua/Joshua (the first person recorded in the Bible as having that name) have a name which is above the name YAHWEH?

In fact they are many people today who are still named Yehoshua/Yeshua/Joshua/Jesus. Are their names above the name YAHWEH?

Of course not! The Bible emphatically says that the name YAHWEH is in and of itself the name
that is above every name and the person bearing that name is the One to whom every knee shall bow.

What then does Philippians 2: 9-11really mean?

Jesus himself gave the answer in his high priestly prayer recorded in John 17: 1-3 & vs.11 which reads as follows:

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus [Joshua] Christ, whom you have sent…  I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name [YAHWEH], the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.”

Here Jesus [Joshua] the Messiah says that his name is YAHWEH!

He said the same thing in John 8: 58-59 where he used the Divine name of God in reference in himself. Speaking to the Jews Jesus said “before Abraham was born, I am!” The Greek word for “I Am” which Jesus used was “egō eimi” which is the equivalent of the Hebrew YHWH/YAHWEH as translated in the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament. The Jews took up stones to stone him because they considered him to be a blasphemer for making such a claim about himself.

Thus Philippians 2: 9-11 should really be understood in the following way:

“For this reason God highly exalted Him [Jesus/Joshua]
and gave Him the name [YAHWEH]
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus [i.e. YAHWEH]
every knee will bow—
of those who are in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
11 and every tongue should confess
that Jesus [Joshua] Christ is Lord [Kurious which is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Adonai (LORD) which is the Hebrew reference to YAHWEH]
to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus/Joshua the Messiah (Christ) is YAHWEH!

Conclusion

Jesus/Joshua is his earthly/human name which was and still is very common (see Mat. 1: 21)

His Divine & Heavenly name, however, is YAHWEH (see John 17: 1-3)

That’s the name which is above every name and He (Jesus) because of his Divine name (YHAWH, identifying him as God) is the person to whom every knee shall bow in submission.

Jesus is indeed the God-Man!

Leaving God’s Basic Template: That’s Queer

Oh dear! Oh dear! What have they gone and done?

Oh dear! Oh dear! What a travesty under God’s sun!

Showing scant respect for the entire family

Setting new record lows for human immorality.

Can you really believe it?  Discarding Adam and Eve

In exchange for a new family built on Norman and Steve

Or just as abnormally for Mary Jane and Emily

Living together and pretending to be a family.

A whole lot of talk and discussion to and fro

Then legally deciding God’s design really must go-

A courtroom of persons born of a woman and man

Moved to take family completely out of God’s hand.

Had the majority of them stopped to contemplatively reflect

They would have moved swiftly to unanimously reject

And take heed of God’s design as they sensibly project

Rather than a verdict that this law we must accept.

I find it hard to believe that such intelligent minds

Could concertedly find themselves in such a bind

To legalize marriage between two of the same kind,

Decreeing all and sundry must accept its bitter rind.

Out of the assembled panel of legal luminaries

Only four stood up for truth and human dignity-

As a good brother dutifully drew to my attention

Certainly such lights in the darkness deserve a mention.

It appears to me that as they sat to deliberate

Just four of them paused to thoughtfully evaluate

The fallout that would attend each and every plate

Simply because the others voted to open the floodgate.

Be informed that this matter touches each and everyone

And life as we once knew it is now practically gone;

Exchanging God’s plan for a very cheap thrill

No amount of water now will help us swallow this pill…

Fallout number one is the certain depopulation

That will definitely decrease the coming generation,

For how will two of the same be able to generate

Unless they turn to opposites in order to procreate.

And since children are an essential part of the family

What right do they have to someone else’s fertility?

Sperm and egg that is a man and woman thing

Should not be given to any two in a same sex fling…

I vote that if two of the same want to live together

Let them both work together to produce another.

Any court that accedes to their unreasonable demand

Is not worth the paper that carries that command.

In all the animal kingdom there’s male and female

But I guess some may say this argument is now stale,

However, let me state again and let the record show

That this is God’s design for those who still don’t know.

Let me say before I leave this matter though

That depopulation is an agenda, I’m sure that it’s so,

What better way to achieve it than by such a rule

For same sex unions can’t produce so that is cool.

By now you and I should have clearly deduced

That this law favours those unable to reproduce,

For same sex unions is the sure way to reduce

Future generations and we have signed that truce.

Let’s chat about discrimination for a moment or two

As to this everyone is guilty both me and you;

In every choice we make all of us discriminate-

We choose what things to like and what to hate.

However, it baffles me when minorities are given

Rights over majorities and with new laws driven

To amend the established law as they put in place

A law that removes majority rights without a trace.

“This law wouldn’t affect those who do not agree.”

This was how some tried to placate you and me.

It is merely to provide a legal framework for the LGBT

To live out their orientation under the right of equality…

Consider the hapless minister who refuses to honour

This law that has been passed in the LGBT favour

Refusing to join a same sex couple in holy matrimony

Could well find himself out of a job and out of money.

Think of the doctor who’s now required to perform

A change of sex operation although not the norm

But refuses to do so since it was never his practice

And ends up before the law courts, another on the list.

Take for example: it would now be an illegal act

To refuse to render a service or engage in a contract

To provide accommodation for a same sex couple

Or even bake their cake would be asking for trouble.

You see while ordinarily I could refuse to comply

And decide to whom I sell and from whom I buy,

That would now only be all right with heterosexuals

But certainly not in the case of same sex couples.

You see this now constitutes a crime of discrimination

When ordinarily it would just have been a preference

To trade or to do business with whomever you want

But… refusing a same sex couple will come back to haunt.

Before it appeared that the majority was ruling,

Now society is changing and so in need of retooling-

Democracy now decides that the fewer is the better,

The minority vote determines the law and the letter.

Then there is the matter of the rights of the child

That the law had sworn to uphold but now has denied

In its urgent haste to honour this strange request

The child has been thrown into a peculiar… mess.

In some cases foster homes have had to be closed

Resisting the authorities was the way they chose.

The idea of two mothers or two fathers they clearly resent

And objected to placing children in a same sex arrangement.

Within the close confines of the nuclear family

The infant distinguishes between Mummy and Daddy.

Imagine the difficulty that child will have then

When the parents are two females or even two men.

Will little John Doe have two mummies or daddies?

Or will little Mary Jane have two daddies or mummies?

Which of the two will perform the role of motherhood

Or change the roles from time to time? I guess they would.

Which gender would these children eventually be?

Which of the two parents would they model, pray, tell me?

Why didn’t the authorities stop to consider such anomalies

Given the entitlement of children to have stable families?

And what of the situation where you don’t know better

And you address the child’s father but it’s the mother,

And you are harshly reprimanded for such an offense

Then suffer great embarrassment having no defense.

“This is my mummy, not my daddy,” the child may correct,

“Please teacher I must inform you I’m extremely upset

And so is my mother too, for she really didn’t expect

That you couldn’t tell the difference when you first met…

But didn’t someone consider the moral implications?

This sordid act is really worst than discrimination

For God is displeased with those that indulge therein

For same sex intercourse is one of the abominable sins.

Some intellectuals argue that some were born gay,

Nature’s design is to blame, they characteristically say.

Even if that is true and there’s no proof to show that it is so

One must remember we are all in a fallen state here below.

So because some have a propensity for a certain behaviour

Does that mean that they should be granted special favour

To practice that activity though it’s morally wrong

And laws be implemented to encourage such a throng?

Can’t we envisage a society that has lost its value system?

Give them whatever they want even if it kills them-

A law to make right wrong and wrong right

And a sworn duty to punish any that against such fight.

There’s an oncoming tsunami but it is no use to run,

We have exchanged good practice for short-lived fun,

Erotic and erratic behavior have replaced common sense

So the minority can have fun at the majority’s expense.

What chaos!  What trouble!  What utter confusion!

What a sick world that’s in need of a spiritual transfusion!

HIV right here among us as Hell’s Invitation Veiled

An Assured Inherent Death Sentence AIDS clearly displayed!

But there is a CURE: Christ the Universal Reliable Escape!

God has provided for everyone who would choose to take

Hold of the offer of salvation that is in Christ alone

Whose blood effects the transfusion and for sin did atone.

Refuse this great offer and we could only ask, “What is next?”

We’ve had promiscuous heterosexual and same gender sex.

Next could be pedophilia, bestiality and maybe necrophilia

And whatever else might be listed on the one world’s agenda.

That we are in for a rough ride is clearly how it appears

More laws to eliminate human rights and increase our fears

For as time passes human rights will be for a selective few

Who will live as they please, and do whatever they wish to do.

This takes me back to George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”

And “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, and a little boy’s alarm

The animals enacted the very hardships that the humans did

And the Emperor before his subjects behind nothing hid.

Another courtroom, another parliament, another poll,

Another law, another enactment… and a modified role,

An unveiling of Satan’s strategies… just as Jesus foretold,

His offer might glitter but remember it’s not genuine gold.

Well with God everything makes sense,

The animals, the trees, every bird;

Thus upon life I mount my defence,

Plus all that He shows us in His word.

In the beginning God created

The cosmos, the sea and all land,

Just by His word he dictated

There was no need to lift a hand.

He looked over what He had made

And He pronounced it good,

The Psalmist sang His accolade

As he viewed from where he stood.

Then He addressed the matter of life,

The birds, the beasts and the fish,

They lived in harmony not strife

As every word brought about His wish.

Finally came His crowning design,

Created by His hand and His breath,

Then from His creation He resigned,

And embark on the seventh day rest.

“Very good,” God said as He surveyed

All that appeared before His eyes,

He was the cause of all that was made,

Not evolution as you on that side surmise.

Next God gave them moral thinking

Because robots He did not want,

But clearly from His instruction sinking,

Our fore parents fell for Satan’s taunts.

Old Sly Fox craftily convinced them,

That God wanted to keep them down,

He then offered them a counterfeit gem

Upon which the Creator had frowned.

All God required of them was obedience,

To His concise and precise instruction,

The devil offered them omnipotence,

That brought about man’s destruction.

From Eden’s bounty they were removed

To experience a life of pain with sweat,

They had done what God had not approved,

And hence must face the consequent debt.

The debt of sin brought a staggering price

Neither man nor angel could repay,

Nothing less than Jesus’ blood and sacrifice

Could redeem man and save the day.

And so Jesus came to earth and died

So that man could be redeemed,

A new creation when the blood’s applied,

And our God still reigns supreme.

There in a nutshell is my worldview,

The beginning with God gets my vote,

Now I am prepared to listen to you

Though nothing you’ll offer is of note.

Atheist Speaks

I listened well as you put your case,

Though I must confess I disagree,

This God-beginning thing I will replace,

As I share my proven, evolution theory.

Before I disprove your hypothesis

I will agree concerning one thing,

All other propositions I’ll dismiss

But concede there was a beginning.

Nothing existed billions of years ago,

There was no God, no cosmos, no life,

This world had a beginning you know,

Thus on that point we incur no strife.

I’m sure you have heard of Big Bang,

And, perhaps you too have ridiculed

Atheists who upon this theory hang

And labeled everyone of them a fool.

Scientific minds support our stance,

There’s much observable evidence,

Experiment and exploration enhance

All that is clear to human intelligence.

The universe, extremely dense and hot,

Once started to expand at a rapid rate,

A big bang occurred so God was not

Responsible for earth’s ordered state.

Just three minutes after this occurrence,

When the universe had begun to cool,

Simple atomic nuclei were in abundance,

You should have studied this in school.

So Big Bang, the cause of this universe

Produced protons, neutrons and electrons,

Setting the universe on its eventual course

That formed the electrically neutral atoms.

Giant clouds from this cosmic activity

Would later coalesced through gravity,

To produce all the stars and each galaxy

What phenomenal, observable creativity!

The essential phenomenon was time,

This process took billions of years,

Unlike your fantasy of Supreme design

About which I have expressed my fears.

Of the universe and its initial condition,

I agree Big Bang provides no explanation,

But with clear and scientific investigation,

The intelligent explanation is evolution.

The time is set four billion years ago

As the date for the simplest life form,

From where it came we do not know,

But in science this is the accepted norm.

These life molecules continue to thrive

As they rained right down into the sea,

No wonder we have this fierce drive

For from out of them came you and me.

While they were replicating and evolving,

They just started to naturally detect,

No marriage problems that needed solving,

For their ties they would naturally select.

This took billions of years to progress

From the simple to the more complex,

It puzzles me when wise people digress

From a theory that makes sense to a next.

Some six million years ago in Africa land

Our lineage and the chimpanzee split,

Now humans produced a human band,

And chimpanzees are no longer the hit.

Humans developed a very unique brain

Which over time they have made good use,

So dump creationism down the drain,

Refrain your mind from such abuse.

Moderator

Now that you have heard both present,

You can try being the judge and jury,

But remember whatever your intent,

Truth is not determined by one’s story.

Truth needs no human vindication,

It’s not based on scientific observation,

It’s not debunked by one’s argumentation,

But it stands on its own in every situation.

Truth has survived the test of time,

It has conquered its fiercest critic,

Once acknowledged one can resign

To live by its clearly design edict.

Faith is a requirement for each theory,

Whether it be evolution or creation,

But whatever your eventual affinity,

It will determine your eternal position.

Creation’s God emerges from eternity,

Evolution has an uncertain beginning,

Creation is built on God’s creativity,

Evolution’s something out of nothing.

My Decision

You judge, the ball is in your court

But creation makes more sense to me,

I’d rather stand on the Biblical report

Than a theory that is clouded in mystery.

Your Decision

That you will have to determine,

Your decision is entirely up to you,

Evolution has no answer for sin,

‘Tis God that presents that view.

Why not with join me on God’s side,

It’s a better life even here and now,

For all those now who in Christ abide,

Shall be saved is God’s solemn vow.

A brighter day awaits the saved,

In our Father’s glorious kingdom,

That stretches beyond the grave,

Via the victory of God’s dear Son.

Evolution seems a choice for hell,

While creation signals the new birth,

Consider all you may but choose well,

For there’s heaven along with earth.

Oh yes, there’s life beyond this here,

Theists want us otherwise to believe,

But on that day they will have to fear,

If God’s salvation they had not received.

Origin of the Races

Have you ever searched the Bible?

Did you find the origin of your race?

There is no such thing amongst its pages

Of race there is not a single trace.

Race is an evolutionary concept

Used by Darwin, Huxley and Haeckel,

These nineteenth century Evolutionistic ideas

Since then have mislead many people.

In the Bible you’d not find the word

Not alluding to people or the concept,

This divisive, separatist ideology

Should be treated as a total reject.

There is no white race or black race,

From where did this fallacy come?

Thank God there are no racial divisions

In His everlasting kingdom.

I point you to Genesis 10 and verse 32

Note the families of the sons of Noah

“And by these were the nations divided”,

Read it for yourself; the Bible says it’s so.

The worldwide division was at Babel,

Find it in Genesis eleven from verse nine,

This was the scattering of all peoples

Not races as Darwin and company opined.

They were scattered according to families

Every one dispersed after his tongue,

Out of this the formation of nations,

This ideology called race is wrong.

In Genesis chapter ten there you find a list

That shows that Darwin was not right,

And this has been totally supported

By the great archaeologist, William F Albright.

From his detailed and in depth research

He found this list “astonishingly accurate”,

For him the Bible was the correct explanation

And with this too I can relate.

Now hear the conclusion of this matter

Back to Adam and Eve you will trace,

That there are not many races but one;

That one we know is the human race.

God created us all in his image

Adam and Eve were told to multiply,

We all are the children of one father

And with this ideology I comply.

It does not matter where the location,

It is of no essence the skin colour,

What matters is that we are one family

Brothers and sisters one of another.

God made the world and all therein

And has made of all nations of one blood,

So that when our fore parents were created

God described His creation as very good.

Time to abolish this schism about races,

Time to eradicate its root and all its traces,

Time to denounce this evil that defaces

God’s creation and appreciate their graces.

Is God a figment of man’s imagination?

By Roger Marshall*

Many intellectuals today and their adherents claim that God is only a figment of man’s imagination. They say that as man evolved from ape-like ancestors he also evolved his religious beliefs in an attempt to explain the frightening laws and phenomena of nature around him. In the words of the late evolutionist Sir Julian Huxley: “In the evolutionary pattern of thought there is no longer need or room for the supernatural. The earth was not created, it evolved. So did all the animals and plants that inhabit it, including our human selves, mind and soul as well as brain and body. So did religion.”1

Was Huxley right? Let’s look at the evidence.

Lack of Evidence for Evolution

There is no scientific evidence whatsoever that supports the theory of evolution. There are no known mechanisms by which it could have occurred and there is no fossil evidence to prove that it did occur

With reference to the fossil record Charles Darwin himself said that it was “one of the most obvious and serious objections which could be argued against the theory.” He further said: “the absence of transitional forms between species…presses hard on my theory.” 2

Today nearly 150 years after Darwin first published his book The Origin of Species in 1859, nothing has changed to alter the dilemma Darwin observed.

The Odds against Life Arising By Chance

The spontaneous generation of life by chance from non-life has long been the mechanism by which the supposed evolution of life arose. However, contrary to this belief the observable scientific evidence has repeatedly shown that life can only come from pre-existing life.

In the October, 1969, issue of Nature Magazine, Dr. Frank Salisbury of Utah State University, assuming that life already existed, examined the mathematical probability of a specific DNA molecule evolving by chance on one hundred, thousand, million, billion planets. He allowed four billion years for this chance reaction to occur.

Conclusion: the possibility of life arising by chance is one in 10415 or one in ten thousand, million, billion, trillion, quadrillion. However, the basic law of mathematical probability as worked out by Dr. Emile Borel, one of the world’s great experts on the subject, states: “the occurrence of any event where the chances are beyond one in 1050/200 is an event which we can state with certainty will never happen – no matter how much time is allotted, no matter how many conceivable opportunities could exist for the event to take place” 3

Another evolutionist, the late Carl Sagan, calculated the possibility of life arising by chance only on the earth. He concluded this improbable feat to be one chance in 10 followed by two billion zeros!

To put it simply, life arising by chance doesn’t have a chance!

Mutations

Mutations are often cited as a mechanism by which one creature is supposed to have evolved into another totally different creature. However, scientific observation has again shown mutations to be almost always harmful to the organism and never beneficial as evolution demands. Mutations result in loss of information not the acquisition of new information, which would be required for one creature to change into another.

Fossils

The earth is one massive graveyard containing billions of fossils, which are the petrified remains of dead plants and animals. These fossils are almost all buried in rock layers laid down by water, in fact fossils can only be formed if the animal or plant is buried rapidly and deeply in the earth. These facts speak of catastrophism on a massive scale, which is better explained by the Genesis flood as recorded in Scripture.

Be that as it may, none of these fossils comply with evolutionary theory as it is often touted that they do. The fossil record provides no transitional or intermediate forms/missing links between species, as should be the case if evolution were true. In fact many of the heralded transitional forms have been debunked. A few examples are as follows:

Archaeopteryx

Evolutionists claim that birds evolved from reptiles like the dinosaurs. A fossil find known as archaeopteryx has long been touted as a transitional form between dinosaurs and birds. However, archaeopteryx is now known to be a true bird and not a transitional form. In the words of palaeontologist and evolutionists, Dr. John Ostrom, “There can be no doubt that archaeopteryx was a true bird…”4

Eohippus

Another highly publicised supposed transitional form is the dawn horse known as Eohippus, a dog-sized four-toed creature, which is said to be the evolutionary ancestor of the modern horse. However, this too has been debunked. In the words of evolutionist George Gaylord Simpson, “The uniform continuous transformation of Hyracotherium into Equus, so dear to the hearts of generations of text book writers, never happened in nature…” 5

When we consider the fossils that supposedly tell the story of human evolution, they too have been debunked. For example:

Piltdown Man

This supposed missing link between apes and humans was built from one jawbone, which later turned out to be that of a modern ape that was deliberately doctored to make it look like an ape-man.

Nebraska Man

This “ape-man” was built from one tooth, which later turned out to be the tooth of an extinct pig.

Java Man

Java Man was constructed from an ape’s skullcap and a human thighbone.

Neanderthal Man

The Neanderthal people have been shown to be modern humans who suffered from rickets and possibly syphilis. 6

Australopithecus

The Australopithecines of Africa, while highly touted as early humanlike transitional forms are really nothing more than simply apes. In the words of paleoantropologists David Pilbeam and the late Glynn Isaac, both of Harvard University, “The australopithecines are rapidly sinking back to the status of peculiarly specialised apes…”7

To put it succinctly: Darwin’s missing links are still missing.
The Dilemma and the irrational response of evolutionists

In the absence of evidence to support their theory what do many evolutionists do? Incredible as it may seem, they simply continue to believe in evolution! Why? One may ask. What would prompt such an irrational response among otherwise brilliant men and women? Nobel prize-winning biologist of Harvard University, Dr. George Wald, himself an evolutionist, put the answer to these questions in perspective when he said: “The reasonable view was to believe in spontaneous generation; the only alternative, to belief in a single, primary act of supernatural creation. There is no third position. For this reason many scientists a century ago chose to regard the belief in spontaneous generation as a philosophical necessity…Most modern biologists, having viewed with satisfaction the downfall of the spontaneous generation hypothesis, yet unwilling to accept the alternative belief in special creation, are left with nothing”8

As for Dr. Wald’s rationale for still maintaining his belief in evolution against all odds he said: “One only has to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible. Yet here we are – as a result I believe, of spontaneous generation”9

Evolutionist and biologist D.H. Watson put it this way “…the theory of evolution itself [is] a theory universally accepted not because that it can be proved by logically coherent evidence to be true, but because the only alternative, special creation, is clearly incredible.”10

Simply put, many evolutionists just do not want to believe the obvious, they do not want to believe in God. Therefore they wilfully choose to believe in the impossible theory of evolution. The Bible calls this kind of behaviour folly. As the psalmist David said: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’…” (Ps. 14: 1).

Conclusion

From the foregoing information we can safely conclude that the popular idea “there is no God who created us but rather life evolved on its own” is scientifically untenable. Life can only come from pre-existing life and that is exactly what the Bible has stated a long time ago in the very first few words of Genesis, the book of Beginnings, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”(Gen. 1:1). And yet again: “In him [God] was life and the life was the light of men”(John 4: 4). Thus based on the observable evidence the Bible proves to be right and the evolutionists prove to be wrong.

The Failed Prophecies of Eugene Young

By Roger Marshall*

“Barbados if you do not turn from your wicked ways I the Lord am Now about to pour out my wrath upon your nation like you have never seen before…Barbados, if you do not REPENT, The Lord says He will Shake, Shake your land, He will in the month of SEPTEMBER send WIND upon your nation, I will BLOW upon BARBADOS in SEPTEMBER saith the LORD. If you still refuse to REPENT, then the Lord says He will then cause an eruption, that will cause the SEA to overtake the land of Barbados. This shall happen one day in the Early, Early Morning hour. The Lord says a 7 month count down for the arrival of this Major Tsunami, has already started and will finish before the end of this year. This Gigantic Towering Wave will come from the South, Carlisle Bay area will be the central point of the wave. It will reach as far as FOUR miles in land, moving in as far as Belle Gully area. This wave will also move inland all along both the South and West Coasts…MANY, MANY SHALL DIE IN MY JUDGEMENT, REPENTANCE ONLY SHALL STAY MY HAND SAITH THE LORD…AMOS 3 VS. 7 ‘Surely the Lord God Will do nothing, but he reveals his secret unto his servants the prophets.’”

So went, in part, a paid advertisement by Eugene Young that appeared in the Friday, July 28th, 2006, edition of The Heat newspaper published by the Advocate Publishers (2000) Inc.

An article entitled Bajans urged to take stock, which appeared in the August 27th edition of the Sunday Sun, reported that Mr. Young said God was speaking to the people of Barbados to prepare themselves for a 9 p.m. disaster during September. In his own words “God says he will send a wind in September, at 9 p.m., without any warnings, watches or alerts. It will just appear. He said preparation must be made now against this disaster.”

Needless to say the month of September, 2006, came and went without any 9 p.m. “WIND” generated disaster befalling Barbados and from all indications things in this nation are pretty much the same, no national repentance has occurred to merit God withholding His wrath from being poured out on this nation as Mr. Young prophesied He would.

This failed prophecy, which was apparently corroborated by the predictions of several other “prophets” and “dreamers of dreams” from among several churches in Barbados, immediately raises two fundamental questions: 1) Did Mr. Young and his fellow self-professed prophets really hear from God? 2) Are they prophets today?

In answer to these questions we need to consult the Bible which should be the Christian’s sole authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Bible says: “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe” (Heb. 1: 1-2, NIV). Translated: prophets (through whom God’s actual, authoritative words came to give guidance to the nation of Israel) served their purpose under the Old Testament economy; today under the New Testament economy with the advent of Jesus and his recorded teachings there is no longer a need for prophets like those in the Old Testament. In fact the Bible further says to the Christian that the church is already built on the foundation of the first century apostles and prophets [or apostle-prophets as the Greek linguistic construction seems to suggest] Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone (Eph. 2: 20) It is the writings of those first century apostles-prophets (as well as the lessons learned from the writings of Moses and the other the Old Testament prophets) which testify of Jesus and the ultimate destiny of planet earth from the dawn of time to the end of the age, to which we must take heed, in fact we must not add any “new revelation” to what God has already revealed to them (Gal. 1: 8-9; cf. Deut. 4: 2; Rev. 22: 18-19). The Protestant Reformers summed up this command of total reliance upon Scripture in the maxim Sola Scriptura – “Scripture Alone.”

In short we don’t need modern-day “prophets” or “dreamers of dreams” to reveal to us God’s “secret” (i.e. plan) for the nations of the earth or for our lives individually, what we need is to correctly understand and obey what God has already revealed and preserved in his Word the Bible!
These self-professed prophets and their adherents in our midst would do well to take heed to the wise counsel of Solomon when he wrote: “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar” (Pro. 30: 5-6,NIV).
Under the Old Testament economy false prophets were to be put to death for presuming to speak a word in the name of the Lord, which God did not command them to speak, as evidenced from the failings of their prophecies (Deut. 18: 20 – 22). Under the New Testament economy the death penalty for false prophecy no longer obtains but in keeping with the continued warnings against false prophets by the New Testament writers all such persons should never again be considered by any one to be prophets of God, as Moses wrote: “If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him” (Deut. 18: 22, NIV). In other words Eugene Young’s failed prophecy of a devastating “WIND” blowing on Barbados in September disqualifies him from being considered as a prophet of God, if also annuls any consideration of the second half of his prophecy which predicts a “Major Tsunami” to strike Barbados as a direct result of God’s wrath.

Islam: New way of Life?

By Roger Marshall*

New way of life was the title of an article that appeared in the September 3rd, 2006, edition of the Sunday Sun which briefly chronicled the conversion of Sheikh Yusuf Estes from Christianity to Islam. The article is a testimony to the tolerance and freedom that is afforded to people of other faiths in a Western nation such as Barbados which (despite its many imperfections) is still largely founded on the Judeo-Christian ethic that protects such freedoms. In Islamic states such freedoms are not afforded to ex-Muslims who convert to Christianity.

In the article Sheikh Estes said, “Many evangelical are dedicated to putting Islam down. I know, I used to be one of them. And of course that is why they hate me more than anybody because they consider me a traitor to have left the fold to go to Islam.” This is strong language, and while I can’t speak for what the Sheikh did when he was a professing Christian, hatred for people because they practice another religion is not the stuff true Christianity is made of. The whole basis of the gospel message is one of love for all mankind, Muslims included, as Jesus (the founder of Christianity) himself said: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3: 16-17).

It was amazing to read that Sheikh Estes as a former Christian minister was unaware that there was much evidence to support his then Christian faith. Contrary to his thinking Christianity is not a blind faith. Jesus was very interested in offering his disciples proof of his resurrection from the dead. As St. Luke wrote: “In my former book, Theophilus, [the original recipient of Luke’s work] I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God” (Acts 1: 1-3, NIV).

The apostle Paul reiterated this fact that Christianity is not a blind faith when he wrote: “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born” (1 Cor. 15: 3-8, NIV). Any one who will take the time to do the research can still examine the evidence for the truth of Christianity.

Sheikh Estes, who lectured in Barbados on two topics one of which was entitled: The Qur’an: God’s Final Revelation To Mankind, was reported to have said the Qur’an was similar to the Bible in many ways and the beliefs were the same. However, the fact is the beliefs are not the same. For example the Bible, which teaches that the teachings of Jesus are God’s final revelation to mankind, refutes the title of his lecture mentioned above. As the Bible says: “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe” (Heb. 1: 1-2).

Sheikh Estes was quoted as saying: “Jesus was pulled up by God, but no cross. There is where the problem comes in. Without the cross, preachers don’t have anything to sell you on Sundays.” (emphasis added). When fully contemplated the absence of the cross in Muslim theology does indeed pose a problem, not only for Christians (if Jesus did not die on the cross for our sins) but also for all mankind, Muslims included. While Sheik Estes’ sweeping charge that preaches are selling the gospel on Sundays, is a derogatory statement (although false teachers have crept into the churches and are guilty of bringing this kind of disrepute on Christianity, as foretold in 2 Peter 2: 2 and Jude 4) the truth is that without the cross, which speaks of the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ for our sins, then preachers wouldn’t have anything to tell the world about how mankind’s sins can be forgiven by a just and Holy God whose justice demands that sin be punished. Without the cross there is no good news, no hope of salvation for lost and guilty sinners anywhere on the face of the earth. As the Bible says: “ In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb. 9: 22). But thanks be to God “Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him” (Heb. 9: 28).

The apostle Paul puts it this way: “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him [Jesus] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross” (Col. 1: 19-20).

Thank God for the cross of Christ it is only by His sacrificial death that we can truly have new life.
